Me!

My blurb about myself
I (Kelby Anderson) am a photographer from Iowa City, but I attended college in Minnesota and am now in a Master's program for plant biology and conservation at Northwestern. I make photographs with 35mm, medium format, and large format film. I print with a variety of different digital and analog processes.
I love photographing the beauty in the Midwest. I’m particularly interested in how people interact with the environment. How do we form relationships with nature in states that have been almost entirely transformed by industrial agriculture? We must appreciate and protect the bits we have left before we can restore what we destroyed.
In addition to photographing the Midwest, I have been fortunate enough to live and work in some amazing places. The life of an ecologist is anything but sedentary. I spent the summers of 2023 and 2025 living in Laramie and Lander, Wyoming, and I’m currently working in Colorado. Although some of my photos are of places far from the Midwest, they were close to home when I made them. What’s close to your home? There are gems everywhere, but you won’t find them if you don’t look!
Awards and stuff
My photos have been selected for both the St. Olaf juried art show in the spring of 2024 and the 2024 edition of St. Olaf's fine arts magazine, "The Quarry". I was also selected to participate in the Emerging Artist program at Iowa City Arts Fest. My most recent show was at Press Coffee in Iowa City, Iowa in October of 2025.
